Cleaning. . .What fun.

After years of hearing "A place for everything, and everything in it’s place," I had become brainwashed into believing it. The only way for something to be TRULY clean would be if EVERYthing truly had it’s own place. This task seemed overwhelming, so rather than putting things away I would just leave it out, creating utter chaos. And I do value a clean desk, but oh, so much work to do it! So, in my mid-winter cleaning of my sewing room, I decided to break the rules.  

Rule number one: "Junk Is Cleaned Up When You Can No Longer see it." If it’s in a drawer, it’s cleaned up–as long as the drawer can close. It doesn’t matter if it was just tossed in there. Or if you have to dig a little to find it. If you can’t see it, it’s not there. (Thus, drawers prefered to shelves.)

Rule number two: "Put Junk With Like Junk," also known as "Organized Chaos" or "Misery Loves Company". Okay, so I don’t have a neat little peg board with all of my tools (glue gun, snap set, small wire cutters, embossing gun, other misc. and peculiar crafting tools) hanging each in their own place. But I know that if I am looking for a tool, I look in THIS drawer, but if I’m looking for a sewing trim (lace, ribbon, etc), I look in THAT drawer.

Rule number three: "Darwinian Organization."
